Family Separation
The
bonding between parents and
their children has a “critical period” during early
childhood. This
means that it needs to occur within a
specific interval during development.
It
is much like the “lazy eye” of amblyopia that needs
treatment to develop
normally. Separating
young children from
their parents is likely to have long term effects on the
childrens’ ability to
navigate life’s challenges and especially their own emotions. Chronic tendencies to
depression, anxiety and
difficulties with anger management are the almost certain long-term
consequences of such actions.
